The questions and answers listed inside are designed to give you further insight into what to expect from Horsham Sparrows FC….
What age can children join the club?
To join the Little Kickers squad a player must be at least 4 years old and boys and girls are coached together. The age limit for the squad is 7 years old although at this age group they are eligible to join the Under 8s team.
How much does it cost?
From September 2018 the sessions will be delivered in blocks which mirror the term dates. These will be charged accordingly which makes it fairer for players joining later in the year. Figures will be released very soon
Who runs the Sessions?
We’re lucky to have a fully qualified, volunteer coach, Ollie Charles running the Little Kickers (find out more about other football sessions he runs here). All Teams at Horsham Sparrows are run by coaches with a minimum of FA level 1 coaching award and are CRB checked. There are also player volunteers that regularly help out with admin and coaching. As a parent you may want to help out so don’t be afraid to offer your services!
When are the training sessions?
Throughout the Winter months (October to April ) the sessions are held on the Multi Use Surface at Collyers College every Thursday evening from 5.45.00pm to 6.45pm. During the Summer months they are held in Horsham park near the North Parade car park at 5.30pm.
At what age does do the players play matches?
Once a player turns 6 they can join the Under 8s team although this is a matter of choice. Some of the more experienced players are happy to play up a year where others prefer to train only. The older players can also get involved with summer tournaments from the age of 6 and older.
What are the players taught?
All coaching sessions are designed to be fun and the stance is one of encouragement and positive praise. The technical emphasis is on controlling the ball and playing with both feet. The drills are also designed to cater for a wide range of abilities and our key aim is for the players to have fun. We do not have a ‘win at all costs’ attitude.
What should they bring to training?
Parents are asked to provide appropriate clothing and footwear including:
- Trainers or Astro boots. No studs are permitted at winter training as it’s a hard surface
- Football shirt
- Shorts or Track suit bottoms
- Shin pads
- Waterproof top / sweat shirt for wet and chilly weather
- Also, please bring a non fizzy drink for refreshment
How can I help?
We are always looking for volunteers to help with coaching and administration. Getting involved with your child’s footballing development can be great fun and hugely rewarding. Offering your assistance with the younger age groups can be the perfect time to get started as a coach ,assistant or helper. We offer our full support to you and give you access to all the help you’ll need as well as pay for coaching courses / training. Initially, all we will ask of you is to complete a CRB check which is a simple process, most of which can be done on-line. See more details here
